Winter Bird Walks to See Gorgeous Long Beach Wildlife
Have you ever wanted an up-close look at the unique and beautiful winter birds that have lived in Long Beach for far longer than humans? Every Monday this month, with the final opportunity on the 28th, a short drive over to the Jones Beach Energy & Nature Center can get you an excellent chance to see native winter birds from spots hand-picked by Center staff for their diversity and accessibility. These unique Winter Bird Walks should take about an hour, starting at 10:30 in the morning. After the walk concludes, visitors are more than welcome to stick around and take in more of the natural beauty, albeit without the presence of a knowledgeable and accommodating guide.
Many of these birds are seasonal, taking different behaviors and appearances as the snow sets in and their food sources shift. Some may only be present in Long Beach for a few months at a time, heading north once the spring thaw hits. Bring the kids and a set of binoculars if you plan on heading out to see these birds.
